M & M Thrift Shop… Helping the Community of Clay Marshall and Mary Nichols own a thrift shop in the little town of Clay, West Virginia. This town may be small, but M & M Thrift Shop has made a big impact on the community. The thrift shop has been operational since 2015. They started this business at 185 Church Street Clay only to move to their current location of 292 Main Street Clay. Mr. Nichols says that they started this business to help people, and they continued to grow as the donations became more numerous. They help a lot of people in their small community. Marshal told me “we help anyone who is in need of help.” Mrs. Miller says they work with a lot of organizations to help as many people as they can, like the We Care Club. They also work with organizations that help battered woman in the community. They also work through the school system by helping the families with children that are in so desperate need of help. They also will try to help people pay their utilities if they can possibly do so. They are a non-profit group, and yet they do so much to help others. Mary says “we love to help people because we love people and children.” The shop has a ton of things like tools, glassware, appliances, toys, silverware, clothes, shoes, blankets, bedding, jewelry, furniture, china cabinets, vintage, and collectables and much, much more. The Nichols recently added a river access called Allie’s Landing. The Nichols are hoping to put a picnic area around the landing very soon. They are also hoping to have an actual light house erected in front of the store. They want the entrance to the shop to be the entrance of the light house. It will have a spiral staircase that takes you all the way to the top of the light house just like an actual one. Thus the name, “The Light House at Allie’s landing” which is the actual name of the place. The location is named after their great-niece who was killed at the age of 9, after being hit by a vehicle. Mary Nichols is an inspirational woman who states, “We want to bring this town back to life.” The shop takes donations, so please if you have anything you are not in need of, donate it to Marshall and Mary Nichols and they will put it to good use!
