Deer Meat

Deer meat, other wise known as venison, is a delicacy to some, while others do not like the wild game flavor. However most of you probably do not know that it is one of the leanest meats you can obtain and one of the best meats for you. Most animal meats tend to be high in saturated fat, but wild game meats, such as venison, are low. This is often the motivation behind people choosing venison over beef. If you are watching your intake of fat, venison would be the better option. Beef and venison both contain high amounts of protein and no carbohydrates. This makes each type of meat favorable for a low-carb diet. Beef has more than three times more cholesterol than venison. A 4-ounce serving contains 20 milligrams. This same serving size of porterhouse steak contains 76 milligrams. The recommended daily intake for healthy individuals is 300 milligrams. Since venison is lower in fat than beef, it is also lower calories. Venison and beef also contain high amounts of various B vitamins. The B vitamins help break down protein, carbs and fat for energy, and they also assist with red blood cell formation. Have a leafy green salad with either form of meat to boost the B vitamin content of your meal. Most people do not realize that deer meat can be used in any dish that calls for beef. I do not believe in waste so I like to make a dish one night and turn it into another dish the next night. So on this page I will be adding some recipes that will reflect this for you.
